If I keep so many programmes(i.e. Messengers, Volume Control,Anti Virus,Internet status etc)?

will it slow down the computer speed.





As you know whenever we download some new programme, an icon of the same appears on the task bar for starting that programme. Some one has told me that if I have so many these icons on the task bar, it will slow down the speed.





Is it correct? If so, whether there is a manner to remove the icons from there but ensuring that the programme is not uninstalled? And in such case, how can I access that programme?If I keep so many programmes(i.e. Messengers, Volume Control,Anti Virus,Internet status etc)?
Every icon on your system tray (the area by the clock) is a program that is running. There could also be programs running in the background that you're not even aware of. I'm going to get a little technical now in my explination....





Each of these programs use memory (RAM - Random Access Memory). RAM is connected directly to the motherboard in your computer so it's accessed really quickly. The problem is that if you have so many programs open your computer runs out of RAM and begins using virtual memory. Virtual memory is on your hard drive which is much slower to access. Therefor, when you have no RAM your computer will be slower. To fix this issue do the following...





Go to Start %26gt; Run and type in msconfig


From there you will see a tab that says ';Startup';


You want to uncheck every program in that list, your PC will still run fine afterwards. This will disable those programs from starting when your PC does. You should be able to easily identify which one is your anti virus software and you can leave that checked if you'd like. Now you can open your messenger software via the start menu or leave certain ones checked so they still start up. You will have to restart your PC for the changes to take place. It's not the icon....it depends on the program. An antivirus program probably uses the most ram, while volume is next to zero. Not all running programs have icons showing when they are running. Go to Microsoft....Marketplace....search for ';startup inspector';...It will show you what is running and make recommendations on what to shut off.
well to start yes it will slow down your pc but there is hope first go to start%26gt; run%26gt; and type msconfig and click the start up tab this by unchecking boxes you can disable programs from starting and save your resources and speed your pc up a lil bit
If there all running at the same time, yes. If you have a small hard drive, yes. If your hard drive has less then 5-10 gigs left, yes. I dont think the volume will slow it down though. If you get the anti virus off the task bar, you will be unprotected until you relaunch the programs. Get rid of the crap, like quick time.
First of all, any anti-virus/spyware program that you have residenting on your pc will slow it down, some worse than others. As far as programs in the task bar, if you use them a lot, keep them there, if not, then you should have an option in the setting of each program which lets you decide if they are in the icon bar. If I could offer a solution that you won't likely consider otherwise, consider changing over to a linux operating system. Although most operating systems work just about the same, Linux allows more things to be allowed simply due to the way it handles them. Some, like Xandros, are very Windows-like in their appearance, and some, like Fedora Core are completely free. All of them are virus and spyware free. I have not encountered any program on Windows that I haven't gotten to work on Linux, and most of the programs on Windows that you'd pay for are free on Linux.
